In short

Who we are

HearthBuilders is made by Compass Software. For any question about this policy or your privacy, write to contact@compass-software.ro.

What the game collects

Nothing. The game has no accounts and no sign-in. It shows no adverts and sells nothing inside the game. It contains no analytics, tracking or crash reporting, and it never sends anything to us or to anyone else over the internet. It doesn't use the microphone or a camera.

What stays on your device

To let you carry on playing, the game saves a few things on the computer or headset it runs on. They never leave that device, except as described under "Playing together at home" below.

WhatWhy
Your worlds: what you built, your inventory, story progress, the map you exploredTo continue where you left off
Settings: language, volume, controls, graphics and comfort optionsTo keep your choices
Player profiles: the name and colour each player chose, and each profile's limitsTo show the right name in the game and apply each child's limits
The Parent Settings PIN, kept only in a scrambled form (a salted hash), never as the PIN itselfSo only a grown-up can change the limits

Uninstalling the game removes everything it saved. On a Windows PC, the worlds are also kept in the game's "Saved" folder, which you can delete yourself.

Playing together at home

When you open a world to your home network, the game announces it on that network so that devices at home can find it. The announcement carries the world's name and the host's player name. While friends play together, their devices exchange the game itself directly over the home network: the world, the players' names, colours and positions.

Players in the same home game can also send each other short text messages (at most 100 characters). They go only to the players in that game and are never saved. On a child's profile, rude words are replaced by stars, and Parent Settings can switch chat off. There is no voice chat and no way to message anyone outside the game.

Nothing goes over the internet, and nothing is kept by us.

The stores the game comes from

Steam (Windows PC and PC VR). If you get the game on Steam, Valve handles your purchase and your Steam account under Valve's privacy policy. The game itself sends nothing to Steam or to us.

Meta Quest. The Meta Horizon Store asks every game to check that it was obtained from the store. When HearthBuilders starts on a Quest, it asks Meta's platform software on the headset one question: does this headset's user own the game? The game receives only "yes" or "no". It doesn't read the user's name, account ID or any other information, and it keeps nothing. To answer, Meta's software on the headset may contact Meta's servers, as described in Meta's privacy policy. The headset itself is covered by Meta's own policies.

Children

HearthBuilders is made for children, including children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone, children included, because the game collects none at all. A parent or guardian can see and change what each child's profile allows in Parent Settings, protected by a PIN. Uninstalling the game removes everything it saved.

This website

This website is a set of plain pages. It uses no cookies, no analytics, no adverts, and loads no fonts or scripts from anywhere else. Like any website, the server it's hosted on may record standard technical information, such as your IP address and the time of a visit, to deliver the pages and keep them secure.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, for example under the EU's General Data Protection Regulation or the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, you have rights over personal information held about you or your child. Because we hold none, there is nothing for us to show, correct, share or delete. You're welcome to write to us with any question, and you can also contact your local data protection authority.

Changes to this policy

If the game ever changes what it keeps or sends, we'll update this page and its effective date before that version of the game is released.
